Newport Beach, CA, noted that athletic shoes are the easiest to work with
in terms of foot function when trying to reduce pain. “A rigid insole
to prevent bending stresses that exacerbate midfoot and forefoot arthritis
is helpful,” he said. For runners, particularly older runners (older
than 35 years), he recommends a running shoe that takes shock while allowing
normal running kinematics and gait.
