Opioid Awareness

In an effort to help educate our patients at Newport Orthopedic Institute of the dangers related to the misuse and abuse of prescription opioid medications (Oxycodone, OxyContin® hydromorphone, fentanyl, and morphine) that are commonly used to treat chronic pain often associated to some orthopedic conditions we have pulled together the following videos that cover opioid medications, common side effects of opioids, signs to watch for related to physical dependence and addition to opioids, use of opioids to manage chronic pain and how to use opioids safely.

Our physicians and staff are trained in best practices related to the prescription pain medicine, including narcotics. When pain management through the use of a controlled substance is clinically indicated, the doctors at Newport Orthopedic Institute seek to prescribe the lowest doses, for the shortest duration possible. We take great effort to minimize the use of controlled substances and avert drug dependence, and we expect our patients to help us work towards this goal together.
