Biography

Dr. David H. So is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement for the treatment of arthritis. He helps patients relieve pain and get back to the activities they love. He starts with non-operative care whenever possible. When surgery is the right answer, he tailors the approach to each patient's anatomy, activity level, and goals. He sees patients in Newport Beach and Huntington Beach.

Dr. So's expertise spans the full range of modern joint replacement, including minimally invasive anterior-approach hip replacement, robotic- and computer-assisted hip and knee surgery, partial knee replacement, kinematic alignment, and medial pivot and custom knee implants. He also has extensive experience with revision surgery for patients whose previous hip or knee replacement has failed or become infected.

An engineer before he became a surgeon, Dr. So earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. He earned his MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, followed by a fellowship in complex joint replacement and adult reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania. Before joining Newport Orthopedic Institute, he spent seven years at UC Irvine as an Associate Clinical Professor and Associate Residency Program Director in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he trained future orthopedic surgeons.

Outside the clinic, Dr. So enjoys time with his wife and children, hiking, tennis, and working on his golf game.
